Classes Live Well Healthy Lifestyle Challenge If your doctor has told you that you need to lose weight or reduce your blood pressure, blood cholesterol, blood sugar or your waist size, as well as your risk for metabolic syndrome, heart disease and diabetes, then this 12-week program is for you. The new Healthy Lifestyle Challenge combines the popular 100 Day Weight Loss Challenge with the successful Metabolic Syndrome Prevention program. Led by nurses and registered dietitian nutritionists, the class provides pre- and post-program wellness measurements, weekly coaching, interactive learning, and weekly weigh-ins. A free Grundy Family YMCA membership for the class term is included. If you want to be healthy, learn to do what healthy people do! ● ● Monday, Sept. 10, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., free preview session. Attend this evening to learn more about the class format. Please preregister so we can plan for materials. ● ● Monday, Sept. 17, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Class sessions end on Dec. 3. Just What the Dr. Ordered GCMH experts introduce lifestyle strategies and choices to help you reach your health goals. Whether it’s preventing diseases for which you may be at risk, weight loss, or improved cholesterol levels and blood pressure control, this popular series will provide practical take-home tips that can make a difference. There is no cost to attend, but registration is requested. ● ● Monday, Sept. 24, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., “Mindless Eating for Weight Loss” ● ● Monday, Oct. 15, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., “Groceries. What’s in Your Cart?” ● ● Monday, Nov. 19, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., “’Tis the Season: Keep the Taste, Lose the Waist” CPR and First Aid Class Take advantage of classes to learn CPR for adults, infants and children, as well as how to use a defibrillator. The class also includes choking and first aid skills. The class is designed for non-health care professionals, and class size is limited. ● ● Saturdays, Sept. 29, Oct. 13, Nov. 17, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Cost is $65 and includes the cost of materials and a certification card. Diabetes Self- Management Education The Diabetes Education program at GCMH provides the expertise of a licensed and registered dietitian nutritionist to provide optimal care and education for people who are managing diabetes. The program cost is covered by many health insurance companies and Medicare upon physician referral. Whether you’re newly diagnosed with diabetes or wish to have an annual follow-up session to review nutrition and disease management, this program can meet your needs. Diabetes Prevention Program— Free Preview Session Did you know you can prevent or delay type 2 diabetes by eating better, being more active and losing weight?
