Classes Live Well Healthy Lifestyle Challenge Begin the New Year with a lifestyle and disease prevention class that supports your efforts to eat better, move more and lose weight. Led by hospital dietitians and cardiac nurses, this challenge teaches proven lifestyle changes that lower your risk for diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and metabolic syndrome. If your doctor has told you that you need to lose weight to improve your health and you’re ready to reduce your risk of chronic disease, our team of lifestyle coaches is eager to support you! ●   ● FREE PREVIEW Thursday, Jan. 24, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Attend this preview session to learn what the class includes, and hear past participant success stories! ●   ● Challenge begins Monday, Jan. 28, and concludes April 15. Participants receive pre- and post- program wellness measurements, weekly coaching and interactive learning while working through the Real Solutions Weight Loss Workbook , attending weekly weigh-ins and benefiting from a Grundy Family YMCA membership. If you want to be healthy, learn to do what healthy people do! Live Well Lab Wellness Screening Start 2019 by knowing your numbers for good health! The GCMH Lab offers everyday wellness screenings. ●   ● Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. No appointment or doctor’s order is needed for cholesterol, glucose, TSH, vitamin D and PSA testing. Costs range from $5 to $25 per test, and insurance will not be billed. Enter the hospital’s south Entrance #1 and stop at Registration. Just What the Dr. Ordered—New Series GCMH registered dietitian/nutritionists will teach you about eating to help you manage your chronic health condition. Small-group classes are offered free of charge. Registration is requested. ●   ● Monday, Feb. 18, 5:30 p.m., “Nutrition to Manage High Blood Pressure” ●   ● Monday, March 18, 5:30 p.m., “Nutrition to Manage High Cholesterol” ●   ● Monday, April 15, 5:30 p.m., “Nutrition to Manage Diabetes or Pre-Diabetes” TICKETS are $40 per person and may be purchased at unitypoint.org/grundycounty/ways-to-give.aspx . CPR and First Aid Class Take advantage of community classes to learn CPR for adults, infants and children, as well as how to use a defibrillator. The class also includes choking and first aid skills. The class is designed for non-health care professionals, and class size is limited. ●   ● Saturdays, Feb. 9, March 16 and April 13, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Cost is $65 and includes the cost of materials and a certification card. Diabetes Self- Management Education The Diabetes Education program at GCMH provides the expertise of licensed and registered dietitian nutritionist Wendy Brewer, RDN, LD, to provide optimal care and education to those who are managing diabetes. The program cost is covered by many health insurance companies and Medicare upon physician referral. Whether you’re newly diagnosed with diabetes or wish to have an annual follow-up session to review nutrition and disease management, this program can meet your needs. Education takes place in an individual or small-group setting.
